The Martingale System Does Not Work

The internet is full of information on roulette betting systems. One of the most popular systems that has been around for generations is the Martingale System; however this system just does not work! Here is the reason why:

The Martingale system suggests that you should place a bet on one of the even money bets on the roulette wheel, namely red or black, odd or even or 1-18 or 19-36. You should place you bet on one of these choices and if you win, all is well and good, remove your winnings and start with your initial bet again on the same choice. However, if your bet loses you should double your bet and spin another time. Keep doing this and eventually you will win, right? WRONG!! A roulette wheel has absolutely no memory of the previous spins, and no matter how many times you read the mathematical impossibilities online for why a Martingale system just cannot lose the fact is that it will.

An example – You place 1 chip on black and red comes in. You then bet 2, and lose. Bet 4 and lose, Bet 8 and lose, Bet 16 and lose, Bet 32 and lose, Bet 64 and lose. The total you have lost is 127 chips, maybe 127 dollars or pounds. Many people advising you to bet on Martingale will say that you will not see a losing streak of more than 7 in a row, but I have done random number simulations and seen losing streaks of 13 – 14 even 15 in a row. You need to ask yourself, can you afford a 15 spin losing streak, doubling up each time you lose? Very doubtful, even if your casino would allow it due to their table maximums.
